Make the Call to Use your Smartphone Less

Attention: open in a new window. Print

10 February 2017

Most of us don’t leave home without our phone, and some of us can be hard pressed not to look at our phone several times an hour (some people have to systematically check every 10-15 minutes) to check updates, emails and social media.  Being so attached to our phones can be incredibly helpful at times, when we need to get hold of someone quickly, to look up a local restaurant or make a quick booking, kill time when we are travelling or waiting in line, or even go shopping.

make 2017 your year

For many the New Year is a chance to start afresh and set new intentions for the year ahead. We declare ambitious goals of losing two dress sizes, going to the gym every day, completely giving up sugar or caffeine, and promising ourselves we will never drink again.  However instead of going all dramatic (and perhaps aiming for the impossible), we should set ourselves smaller, easily achievable goals. Or try having a theme or word for the year that acts as a guide for your year, (such as 'simplify', 'new home', 'save', 'healthy' or 'happy').  These words carry with them an ideal way of being and can work as motivation without being too overwhelming.

spring is beckoning

It’s finally warming up with the days getting longer (officially since Friday!) and we are well into Spring. Traditionally Spring is all about new beginnings and the perfect time of year to reboot, refresh, reenergise and reorganise. It’s a time to declutter our lives so we have SPACE and MOTIVATION to go into summer all fires blazing and tap into that beautiful expansive energy GETTING STUFF DONE AND HAVING FUN.  It’s also a great time of year to assess how your year has gone so far. Have you made time to stop and think about the goals you might have set yourself earlier in the year? Are you still pursuing them? Are you on track? Have you lost interest or forgotten about them?  If you haven’t IT’S NOT TOO LATE!

R U OK? Reconnecting with lost loved ones

asking if someone is ok might just save a life

This week saw the annual ‘RU OK’ day celebrated across Australia and various media and social media channels as part of a national campaign to help reduce the rates of suicide in this country. The initiative encourages all Australians to reconnect with someone they’ve lost touch with after new research from the suicide prevention charity has revealed a third of Aussies have unintentionally lost contact with at least four family members or friends. Social media has its role to play here, it’s easy to feel connected to legions of people, and its very easy to write happy birthday on someone’s Facebook wall once a year, but how authentic are these connections and are they enough for someone going through a tough time?

Paid Parental Leave

12 May 2016

I am well and truly on my way to being a mum. I now waddle rather than walk, I now have to bend down with my legs comically far apart in order to pick anything up from the floor, I now have to pee several times during the night, and I sleep with a total of 4 pillows.
