In October, credit union members around the world celebrate International Credit Union Day®, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements. In honor of this special day, Northern Inland invites its members and the entire community to help us celebrate at four events hosted by our local branches:

The celebrations will include the opportunity to take advantage of special offers including a Refer-a-Friend cash promotion and ‘Cupcake for a Cause’ to raise money for our local worthy organisations:

At each event, children can enter a ‘Super Saver’ colouring competition with the chance to win local movie tickets and there will also be balloons and sweet treats for giveaway.

‘It is a great chance for community members to understand the credit union difference,’ Northern Inland CEO, Derek McIntyre said.

‘As a quality alternative to the big banks, this celebration enables us to share with our local communities what has always been so great about the credit union movement,’ he said.

‘And although our industry as well as people’s banking behaviour has undertaken a massive change, we find that our Members still hold dear what matters most, personal service and good value for money.’

Credit Unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for over 231 million members in 109 countries worldwide. More than 68,000 credit unions exist globally, providing a plethora of financial services for their members, recognised as a force for positive economic and social change. Northern Inland Credit Union operates in Gunnedah, Tamworth and Narrabri and currently serves nearly 16,000 Members.

‘Traditional credit union banking products such as savings and personal loans are still a big part of our offering,’ said Mr McIntyre.

‘But our Members also use us as their first choice for commercial loans, mortgages, credit cards and even self-managed superannuation accounts’ he said.

‘Our technology offering is also a surprise to some members of the public, who may think payment and banking services such as Apple and Android Pay®or a mobile app are only available at the big banks.’

For almost 70 years, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember the proud history of credit unions and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference.

This year’s theme, “Dreams Thrive Here,” celebrates how credit unions can help local people realise their dreams through smarter management of their finances.

Northern Inland will share their activities with the global community on social media using #CUdifference and #ICUDay. For more information about our events, contact 02 6763 5111 or visit us at one of our branches.
